A healing crisis is often encountered after a visit to a Naturopath, or other natural health practitioner. Although it’s anything but a pleasant experience, it is a vitally important process. The symptoms of the healing crisis are usually a feeling of general malaise, headaches, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting and reflux. Some people have all of these symptoms, or just one or two.
It’s called a healing crisis, because even though the body is healing itself, you can feel pretty awful…which is the crisis! Despite feeling horrible, there is healing happening inside, which involves a cathartic process of throwing off toxins, poisons and/or emotional and mental baggage.
Like many other things, healing is a process. This process begins on taking the healing treatment. Once the treatment is administered then it needs to be integrated into the body. The body knows how to do this best and enables the healing treatment to be integrated in such a way that it will have the maximum effect.
The worst thing to do when encountering a healing crisis, is to stop taking the treatment, even if it is only for a few days. Why? Because when you stop taking the therapy that is activating the healing process, the healing crisis is over. You start to feel better because the immune system is no longer attacking the illness. The illness starts to re-lodge and re-establish itself in its comfort zone and to happily fester again.
This is why it is so important to push through and continue with the treatment. Although you feel terrible, through this healing crisis, your body is healing itself, making itself stronger and removing the things that were causing imbalances, resulting in poor health.
If you find this is happening to you, remember this article. Ask yourself if this is what is happening. Consult your Naturopath again and ask them. Follow their expert advice and have faith. Once the body has properly dealt with and removed the toxins in your system (physical, mental or emotional), you will not only feel better but you will also stay that way.
If you have any questions regarding the healing crisis, please feel free to ask us about it at your next consultation.
